Our local lighting repair vendor has had Noguchi in their shop for years. Lisa: The Noguchi Staircase Necklace is a fun story. Tell me about a particular piece with a unique history. You will see, in the front entrance, there is a woven tapestry hanging on the wall that is over 100 years old. It has a great collection of vintage textiles, so we saw it as a design opportunity to showcase it as much as possible. Lisa: Our client came from a modest sized apartment before moving into this house, so the furnishings were mostly a blank slate. Our client is a clothing designer with a strong passion for sustainability, so that was really important.Īaron Leitz Did you face any challenges or surprises during the renewal? We also used only natural fabrics (wool and linen) or reclaimed old textiles. Lisa: Everything has to be vintage or local. What are the things your customer wasn’t negotiable? We wanted to showcase the color and energy of these special pieces and allow furnishings and accessories to take a step back with a more neutral approach. Lisa: Our clients have lots of brightly colored artwork that they painted or collected from artists for many years now. How did you come up with the house color scheme?

Tori: This project felt really special because there is so much creative and personal synergy between us and the client.

Her passion for vintage and handcrafted pieces with a strong focus on sustainability is my shared passion, and the incorporation of warm layers and textures greatly overlaps with our ‘office personality’. Lisa Staton: Aesthetically, the color palette is very much the client’s, and is informed primarily by its artwork and collection of vintage textiles. How does the house represent their personality versus yours? There will always be organic items layered with specialty vintage pieces and one-of-a-kind items from local makers. Tori Petrov: Our design aesthetic is a balance between restrained traditional and accessible modern. Whatever you’re craving to change at home, this list is guaranteed to offer tons of solutions you may not have even thought of - and all at a reasonable price point.How would you describe the aesthetic of your design? How about your customer’s style? Change it up with peel-and-stick wallpaper that can be removed and changed out at will or apply a coat of chalk-style paint to tired furniture, completely reinventing it in the process. For example, some gorgeous linen curtains or trendy globe wall sconces might be all you need to create an updated feel.
